Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many notices of public works contracts and licences in conformity with Council Directive 71/305/EEC of 26th July 1971 and 72/277/EEC of 26th July 1972 have been published in the Official Journal by British authorities; and how many contracts have been awarded to non-British firms in other EEC countries in each year since January 1973.

Up to 31st May 1977, 3,497 public sector works contracts were advertised by United Kingdom contract awarding authorities in the Official Journal of the EEC, in accordance with the requirements of EEC Directives 71/305 and 72/277.

No works contract is known to have been placed with a non-British contractor operating from any other EEC country as a result of these advertisements.
