HC Deb 20 June 1977 vol 933 cc344-5W
Mr. Ronald Atkins

asked the Secretary of State for the Evironment how many apprentices in the private and public sectors of the construction industry were made redundant (a) during their period of training and (b) on receiving their indentures.

Mr. Golding

I have been asked to reply.

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that since April 1975 the Construction Industry Training Board has been notified of 3,295 apprentices who have been made redundant during their period of training. Of those, 376 have been placed with other employers under normal industry arrangements and a further 1,253 have been placed with the aid of an adoption grant from the Board. There are currently 227 redundant apprentices whose training is being continued under the auspices of the CITB until employers can be found for them. The Construction Industry Training Board is making strenuous efforts to find alternative training for the remainder, apart from some 300 who are no longer available for continued train
