Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people claimed supplementary benefit payments in Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne, Coleraine, and Ballymoney during the three weeks ended 1st, 7th and 14th May 1977.

The information is as follows:

As at 15th June 1977, 317 persons have been held in Northern Ireland under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Acts 1974 and 1976. 164 of these persons were subsequently charged with the following offences:

Some of the 164 persons were charged with more than one offence.

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many persons have been charged under the Prevention of Terrorism (Temporary Provisions) Act in Northern Ireland; and under which section of the Act.

Mr. Mason

As at 15th June 1977, nine. Two persons have been charged under Section 9 (failure to comply with an exclusion order); one, under Section 10 (contributions towards acts of terrorism); and six under Section 11 (withholding information about acts of terrorism).
