relating to coach or public service vehicle accidents in 1976, following the exceptional figures for 1975 which resulted from two severe accidents.

In 1976 there were 15,805 injury accidents involving public service vehicles, as compared with 16,659 such accidents in 1975. The numbers of casualties among drivers and passengers of these vehicles were as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will give an estimate of the cost of road accidents in Great Britain in 1976, broken down into lost output, police and administration, medical and ambulance, damage to property, and allowance for loss in human terms.

Mr. Horam

The total cost of road accidents in Great Britain in 1976 is provisionally estimated to have been at least £970 million in 1976 prices. This total can be broken down as follows: lost output, £237 million; costs of police and administration, £63 million; medical and ambulance costs, £30 million; damage to property £447 million; allowance for loss in human terms, £193 million.
