HC Deb 17 June 1977 vol 933 cc313-4W
Sir A. Meyer

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he proposes to accept the application of the British Nuclear Fuels Limited to discharge liquid waste of low radioactivity into the Meols Long Sea Outfall sewage pipeline in view of the cumulative effect of such discharges on the North Wales coastline.

Mr. Bishop

Following receipt of the application by BNFL for an authorisation under the Radioactive Substances Act 1960 the established consultation arrangements with the local authority concerned and other interests have been undertaken. My right hon. Friends the Minister and the Secretary of State for the Environment await the results of these. In considering any authorisations under the 1960 Act we take fully into account possible long-term effects.
