HC Deb 17 June 1977 vol 933 c312W
Mr. Marten

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the total egg production in the latest convenient 12 months; and what percentage was exported to other EEC countries.

Mr. Bishop

Total United Kingdom production of shell eggs in 1976 was 38,429,000 boxes—each box contains 360 eggs—of which 333,000 boxes—0.87 per cent.—were exported to other EEC countries. In addition, the equivalent of a further 60,000 boxes of eggs, equivalent to 0.16 per cent. of production, were exported to other EEC countries as egg products. This figure includes egg products derived from imported shell eggs. It is not possible to determine separately the quantity derived from home-produced eggs.
