HC Deb 15 June 1977 vol 933 c210W
Mr. Costain

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps are being taken to increase the supply of land in Hong Kong.

Mr. Luard

The Hong Kong Government are continually planning and carrying out the increase of the supply of land through their public works programme. It is expected that some 7,000 additional acres of land will become available for development over the next five years. A special committee has been set up to examine what further areas of land on the mainland of Hong Kong might be developed and a comprehensive study of the possibilities for the development of Lantau Island is expected to be commissioned shortly.
