Meyerasked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make it his practice to publish regular statistics showing not only the total number of registered unemployed but also the total numbers of employed by category, so as to provide a more balanced picture of the employment situation.
§ Mr. GoldingInformation relating to both unemployment and employment is already published regularly and in considerable detail. The latest unemployment total, relating to May, is 1,286,000 153W or 5.6 per cent. of all employees. The latest figure for the total of employees in employment is just over 22 million at the end of last December, and the comparable figure for the total employed labour force, which includes the self-employed and Her Majesty's Forces, is close to 24¼ million.
