Mr. George Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many young persons have benefited from the work experience programme in Great Britain, the Northern Region and the Mid-Northumberland employment area, respectively.

Mr. Golding

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that, by 16th July, 18,348 young persons in Great Britain and 2,102 young persons in the Northern Region had benefited from the work experience programme. Statistics are not available for the Mid-Northumberland employment area, but I people, who are members of the TUC General Council, who presently hold posts in paid and unpaid public offices for which he has responsibility; and if he will give details of the appointments with salaries in each case.
