HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 c505W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will seek to revise the regulations which prevent claims for social security supplementary benefit from students during student vacations being met, regardless of the willingness of parents to make the contribution to maintenance which they are deemed able to make under current student support arrangements.

Mr. Orme

No. In general, it is not appropriate for supplementary benefit to be used to make good contributions which parents are assessed to make under the student support system.
