HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 c633W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry to what extent the Government's Shipbuilding Intervention Fund of £65 million has been committed; and how much of the commitment relates to each of the subsidiary companies of British Shipbuilders.

Mr. Kaufman

Up to 27th July 1977 assistance totalling £12.8 million had been offered from the Shipbuilding Intervention Fund. It is not possible to give a breakdown by individual companies without revealing information about individual orders, which is regarded as commercially confidential.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what will be the total funds available for the shipbuilding industry redundancy scheme, how many employees are expected to benefit therefrom: and how the individual entitlement will be computed.

Mr. Kaufman

Detailed arrangements have still to be worked out.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the current state of the proposal to support the manufacture of ships for Nigeria and Poland.

Mr. Kaufman

British Shipbuilders is currently attempting to secure orders for ships from both these countries.
