Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his latest estimate of the number of people directly employed in the shipbuilding industry in Scotland; and how the current position compares with that in 1964 and 1974.

The latest information about employment in the shipbuilding and marine engineering industry in Scotland is for June 1975. Estimates are not available for shipbuilding alone.the information available: Following is the information available:

The figures for June 1965 (b) and later dates are from the continuous series of employment estimates which remove discontinuities in the data previously published and are available for industry orders.
