Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the latest available date for the completion of the repairs on the rocker assemblies of the Severn Bridge.

Mr. Horam

Work on the rocker assemblies is now expected to be completed before the end of October.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the estimated cost of repairs on the box girders of the Severn Bridge.

Mr. Horam

The cost of strengthening the box girders to meet the requirements of the Merrison Committee was £538,500. The cost of stiffening the end diaphragms of the decks is included in the cost of the rocker repairs which is estimated to be about £200,000.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how long repairs on the box girders of the Severn Bridge will take.

Mr. Horam

The repairs to the rocker assemblies and the end diaphragms should be completed by the end of October. The remainder of the Merrison strengthening was completed last year. The short cracks in the deck trough stiffeners will be completed in about three weeks.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport how far advanced are the repairs to the box girders of the Severn Bridge.

Work is under way; the weld crack repairs will be completed during August; end diaphragms and rockers in October.
