HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 c622W
Mr. Faulds

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the National Gallery pressed for the acceptance in satisfaction of estate duty of the portrait of Madame de Pompadour by Drouais; and whether the eventual purchase of the painting by the National Gallery was a consequence of the administrative regulation limiting the gratuitous allocation to national museums of works of art thus accepted.

Mr. Denzil Davies

The answer to both parts of the Question is "No".
