HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 cc516-7W
Mr. Cronin

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give figures comparing industrial production during the four quarters of 1976 and the first quarter of 1977.

Mr. Joel Barnett

It is estimated that industrial production during the first quarter of 1977 was about 1¼ per cent. above the average of the four quarters of 1976. The relevant figures are given in the table below:

INDEX OF INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTION
(1970 = 100)
Seasonally adjusted Total of all industries Stock adjustment *
1976—
1st quarter 101.9
2nd quarter 102.4
3rd quarter 101.5
4th quarter 103.2
1977—
1st quarter 103.2
* Broad adjustment to be made to the index of industrial production to compensate for the use in the compilation of the index of certain series which measure deliveries rather than production.
