HC Deb 28 July 1977 vol 936 cc649-50W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many female employees were in full-time employment in each of the employment areas of Grimsby on 1st January 1977;and what proportion of the female population of working age these figures represent.

Mr. Golding

At June 1975, the latest date for which employment estimates are available for local areas, there were 27,500 female employees in employment in the Grimsby employment office area of whom 13,100 were employed full-time.

It is not possible to calculate the percentage of the female population of working age that these figures represent because they are on a different basis from the population figures. Thus they relate to (a) employment office areas rather than local authority districts and (b) to people who work in the area regardless of their place of residence. However, figures from the 1971 census of population for the areas of the Grimsby and Clee- thorpes District Councils show that 46.2 per cent of the enumerated female population of working age—15–59 years—were in full-time of part-time employment either within or without those areas.
