Mr. Woodall

asked the Secretary of State for Trade when the decision was taken to discontinue the postal inquiry service for companies registered in Edinburgh; and what consultations took place before this decision was made.

Owing to manpower constraints and the need to give priority to statutory functions, the postal inquiry service of the Companies Registration Office in Edinburgh will have to be discontinued from 1st August. Regular users were informed by letter on 22nd June. The postal inquiry service in England and Wales has been discontinued since 1st October 1975.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many postal inquiries to the Companies Registration Office in Edinburgh were received in the last year.
