Mr. Jim Spicer

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the amount of duty paid in 1976 by the United Kingdom importers of canned peaches, pineapple and fruit cocktail.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

Protective duty charged on imports of all canned and preserved fruit in 1976 was £9.2 million. It is estimated that just under half was on imports of canned peaches, pineapple and fruit cocktail.
