HC Deb 27 July 1977 vol 936 cc308-9W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are the latest figures available for the average pupil-teacher ratios in infant, junior and secondary schools, respectively, in Grimsby and the comparative figures for each category over the past five years; and how the current ratios in each category compare with overall averages for England.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Statistics for areas smaller than local education authorities are not compiled routinely by my Department and figures are, therefore, not readily available for Grimsby later than 1974, when it became part of the Humberside authority. I understand that following a reorganisation of schools in 1973 there are now no primary schools in the Grimsby area classified as "Infants" or "Junior". The available ratios for maintained schools in Grimsby county borough, the county of Humberside and England for the years 1973 onwards are as given below:

how many visually handicapped children there are in Grimsby; and how many of these are educated in other local authority areas.

Miss Margaret Jackson

The Humberside Local Education Authority reports that there are 11 visually handicapped children in the Grimsby Education Division, five of whom are being educated in other local authority areas.
