§ 43. Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what assistance he proposes to give Shetland herring processors in view of the ban on North Sea herring fishing.
§ Mr. MillanWhile I appreciate that the ban is causing difficulties, it is generally recognised by all sides of the industry that it is necessary if the stock is to return to a viable level. In the meantime, both fishermen and processors are seeking possible alternative sources of herring and supplies of other species, and I have no proposals for assistance to the processors.
