Countryside Review Committee

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he expects the Countryside Review Committee to issue further discussion papers.

The Committee's first two papers on individual aspects of countryside policy are being published tomorrow, Thursday 28th July. They are entitled "Rural Communities" and "Leisure and the Countryside". I am placing copies in the Library. As my right hon. Friend explained in announcing the Committee's introductory paper "The Countryside—Problems and Policies" on 29th July 1976—[Vol. 916, c. 361]—Ministers are not committed to these papers, and policy action which may be desirable as a result of the Committee's work will need to be considered in the light of the position on public expenditure.
