§ Mrs. Jegerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what limitations are being placed on the ante-natal diagnosis and treatment of thalassaemia among National Health Service patients at University College Hospital; and whether it is easier for private patients to obtain these services at the hospital.
§ Mr. MoyleAt present, the ante-natal diagnosis of thalassaemia is being undertaken at University College Hospital as a research project. The implications of a transfer of this service to normal routine is being investigated. I am not aware of any limitations yet or of limitations in treatment of the complaint or of such services being more readily available to private patients.
