rates are recorded it is not possible to give separately the results of the introduction of a physical check of the silencer and exhaust system of motor cycles since since the introduction of the revised MOT test in January 1977. However, in the first four months of this year the overall failure rate for this class of vehicle has increased by 4 per cent. over the corresponding period last year.
