§ Sir Bernard Braineasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his inclusion of the six beds at the Hospital for Sick Children, London, in the list of existing burns units in England and Wales in his answer published in the Official Report for 27th May is meant to imply that this unit currently offers full facilities for the treatment of burns and that its proposed closure in 1978 will not now take place.
§ Mr. MoyleThe unit has recently been reduced from six beds to two because the average daily occupancy is less than two. The hospital continues to provide full facilities for the treatment of burns and has no plans to stop doing so. However, consideration is being given to discontinuing the separate bums unit and treating serious burns cases in cubicles in the plastic surgery ward.
