§ Mr. Fordasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will 649W make a statement about any measures she is taking to mitigate the effects of higher university fees upon mature students, in the light of those cases brought to her attention in recent correspondence from Bradford University.
§ Mr. OakesI understand that the students in question have attended previous courses with mandatory awards, so that a further award would be at the discretion of their local authorities. Provision was made in the universities' recurrent grant settlement for 1977–78 to help students affected by higher tuition fees, including mature students, but it is left to universities to decide for themselves whom to support and how much help to give.
