HC Deb 21 July 1977 vol 935 c655W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what most recent information he has about the hanging of prisoners in Zimbabwe by the illegal Smith regime; and whether this matter was raised by the Anglo-American mission to Salisbury.

Mr. Rowlands

The illegal regime have themselves admitted that executions are continuing in Rhodesia. They have repeatedly been made aware of the Government's abhorrence that this should be so. The question was not raised at the most recent meeting by the Anglo-US Consultative Group, but my right hon. Friend stressed the issue himself with Mr. Smith in April.

Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will invite the International Red Cross to investigate conditions at the Khami maximum security prison in Rhodesia.

Mr. Rowlands

I would refer my hon. Friend to the answer I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Ormskirk (Mr. Kilroy-Silk) on 9th March.—[Vol. 927, c.565.]
