HC Deb 21 July 1977 vol 935 cc650-1W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the average class size in secondary schools in the Leek parliamentary constituency; and how this figure compares with the figure for England and Wales.

Miss Margaret Jackson

Statistics are are not compiled for individual parliamentary constituencies by my Department. In January 1976, the latest date for which information is available, the average size of a secondary class—as taught—in the county of Stafford as a whole was 23.1 pupils. The corresponding figure for England and Wales was 22.5 pupils.
