Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether child benefit is payable in the case of a woman and her lover, and one child, the man not being the father of the child, all living together on the Costa Brava, Spain, for up to six months, for that six-monthly period, if they all then return to the United Kingdom.

Provided that the absence of a family from this country was intended throughout to be temporary, child benefit would be payable to the mother for the first 26 weeks of such absence.
