HC Deb 21 July 1977 vol 935 cc694-5W
Mr. Park

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection whether he intends to initiate any action arising from the intention the price of beer by 1p per pint.

Mr. George

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what action is contemplated in view of the price increases announced by certain brewers prior to the publication of the Price Commission Report on Beer.

Mr. Maclennan

The present powers enabling my right hon. Friend to refer general questions to the Price Commission do not provide for action to hold back proposed price increases pending the Commission's report. Such increases must however, be notified in advance to the Commission, which will permit them only if they are justified under the terms of the Price Code.
