§ 39. Mr. Madelasked the Secretary of State for Transport what studies his Department has made of the effectiveness of various methods of improving the flow of traffic in towns; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. William RodgersMy Department, through the Transport and Road Research Laboratory, the Traffic Advisory Unit and its regional offices, has a continuing programme of studies with the566W objective of improving traffic flow. Many of these are made in collaboration with local authorities. Some studies are specific to one device or technique whilst others are concerned with improving traffic flow through an urban network. Such studies, which make a material contribution to the policies set out in the White Paper, will continue. The results are made available in reports and technical advice.
