Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for Employment what improvement there has been during the last three years in the number of employers who employ their full quota of disabled people in the Middleton and Prestwich constituency and in the Greater Manchester area as a whole.
§ Mr. John GrantI am advised by the Manpower Services Commission that the earliest information held about quota compliance in local office areas of the Employment Service Agency relates to 1st June 1975. The numbers of employers fulfilling their quota in the areas covered by Middleton employment office and Prestwich jobcentre increased from 21 at 1st June 1975 to 25 at 1st June 1977; this was an improvement in the proportion satisfying the quota from 24.1 to 43.1 per cent. during that period. The number of employers fulfilling quota in the combined Employment Service Agency local office areas falling wholly or mainly within the Greater Manchester metropolitan county decreased from 1,328 at 1st June 1975 to 1,189 at 1st June 1977, a fall from 46.4 to 42.2 per cent.
