§ Mr. Gryllsasked the Secretary of State for Energy what is his estimate of the net salary, assuming the post to be held by a married man with no dependent children, in real terms, of: (a) the Chairman, (b) the Deputy-Chairman and (c) other board members of the Central Electricity Generating Board in 1972 and 1977, taking 1972 as the base year; and how many places on the board are currently unfilled.
§ Dr. J. Dickson Mabon,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 7th July 1977; Vol. 934, c. 611–2], gave the following information
Taking 1972 as the base year, the net salaries in real terms of the Chairman, Deputy-Chairman and full-time members of the Central Electricity Generating Board are estimated to be:
1972 Net of tax 1977 Real terms* Chairman … £9,509.64 £4,776.73 Deputy Chairman … £8,709.01 £4,425.82 Full-time member … £7,797.96 £4,035.44 *1977 figures are on the basis of the tax rates and allowances announced in the Budget. There are at present no unfilled vacancies on this board.
