§ Mr. Morganasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps he proposes for the improvement of both BBC and independent television reception in the Tanat Valley area of the County of Clwyd, in particular with a view to enabling licence-holders in the area to receive Welsh programmes.
§ Mr. JohnThe provision of television services is primarily the responsibility of the broadcasting authorities. The BBC takes the view that while some parts of the Tanat Valley are able to receive television services from the Wrekin UHF station, there are no prospects in the foreseeable future for extending coverage of Welsh television services to the area, because of the scattered population and the nature of the local terrain.
