§ Dr. John A. CunninghamThe "Save it" campaign was launched on January 20th 1975 and continued throughout the year. Precise measurement is impossible, but it has been estimated that the amount of energy conserved and saved in 1975 due to all causes, such as price and income effects and energy conservation measures, including the "Save it" campaign, but excluding the direct effect of variations in industrial output, was 527W around 6 per cent. of primary energy or perhaps 12 million tons oil equivalent. However, because of the inherent uncertainty of such estimates, the savings could be as high as 10 per cent. or as low as 2 per cent. It is expected that this trend will have continued in 1976.
