Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many new jobs he expects to be created before the end of the year (a) in Kirkby, (b) on Merseyside, (c) in the North-West, (d) in the Northern Region, (e) in Scotland, and (f) in Wales.

Mr. Cryer

Companies in receipt of offers of regional selective assistance under Section 7 of the Industry Act 1972 expect to create the following new jobs during the year ending 31st March 1978:

Kirkby 330
Merseyside 7,500
North West Region 14,200
Northern Region 10,700
Scotland 19,000
Wales 7,000

Other new employment will arise from selective assistance given under the accelerated projects, selective investment and industry schemes authorised under Section 8 of the Act; from payment of regional development grant under Part I; from Government factories for rent or purchase; and from investment by the National Enterprise Board.
