§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what are the latest figures available for the amount of retail trade carried out by credit cards; how these figures compare with previous figures available; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. John FraserI regret that this information is not available. In reply to the latter part of the Question, I would mention that the Consumer Credit Act 1974, which prohibits the sending of unsolicited credit cards, applies to many credit card agreements. Moreover, certain aspects of the credit card companies' operations are being considered by the Monopolies and Mergers Commission.
