HC Deb 18 July 1977 vol 935 c324W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is his estimate of the net salary, assuming the post to be held by a married man with no dependent children, in real terms, of the managing director and other members of the board of Cable and Wireless Limited in 1972 and 1977, taking 1972 as the base year; and how many places on the board are currently unfilled.

Mr. Les Huckfield, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 8th July 1977; Vol. 934, c. 709], gave the following information:

The net salaries, assuming each post to be held by a married man with no dependent children, of the managing director and of a member of the board of Cable and Wireless Ltd. in 1972 were £6,906.81 and £5,684.72, respectively, the latter calculated from the average of the gross salaries of full-time members.

The comparable figures for 1977 in real terms, using 1972 as the base year, are £3,62877 and £3,152.08, respectively.

There are two vacancies in the formal number (12) of board members.
