§ Mr. Tierneyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what powers he has to ensure an adequate establishment of retail dispensing outlets sufficient to meet the needs of the National Health Service and the general public.
§ Mr. Ennals:To meet exceptional circumstances, where I am satisfied that the pharmaceutical services provide in an area are not adequate, I am empowered under Section 43 of the National Health Service Act 1946 to make, or authorise the appropriate family practitioner committee to make, whatever arrangements are necessary to enable an adequate service to be provided.
