HC Deb 14 July 1977 vol 935 c204W
21. Mr. Sims

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from chief constables on the effects of the reduction in overtime duties by police officers.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

It is for each police authority, after consulting the chief officer, to decide how much money to make available for predicted overtime working, taking into consideration both the effect on its overall budget and the need to maintain adequate policing in its area. The efficiency of policing in any area is kept under review by Her Majesty's Inspectors of Constabulary and I see no need for any special report.
