HL Deb 13 July 1977 vol 385 c964WA
Lord BOSTON of FAVERSHAM

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What further steps have been taken to continue work to formulate legal principles to regulate remote sensing and direct television broadcasting by satellite following the resolution of the 31st session of the General Assembly of the United Nations approving the report of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS

Since the adoption of General Assembly Resolution 31/8 of 12th November 1976, remote sensing and direct television broadcasting by satellite have been discussed by the Legal Sub-Committee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCPUOS) (14th March-8th April) and by the Main Committee in Vienna (20th June-1st July). Further useful progress has been made on the formulation of the principles governing direct television broadcasting by satellite and remote sensing. A report of the Committee's work will be presented to the United Nations General Assembly later this year.
