asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress has been made in the drafting of an international Convention against the taking of hostages following the decision of the General Assembly of the United Nations at its 31st session to set up an ad hoc committee to undertake that work.

The MINISTER of STATE, FOREIGN and COMMONWEALTH OFFICE (Lord Goronwy-Roberts)

Thead hoc committee is scheduled to meet in August to discuss the terms of a draft Convention against the taking of hostages. It will report on the progress made to the next Session of the UN General Assembly, which opens on 20th September.
