HC Deb 13 July 1977 vol 935 cc169-70W
50. Mr. John H. Osborn

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether the Ministers for Social Security in the EEC have discussed at their June meeting disabled drivers, disability allowances, and the provision of vehicles for the disabled with a view to designing, building, and then financing the operating and running costs of such a vehicle; and whether the Social Fund will be used for this purpose.

Mr. John Grant

The hon. Member is probably referring to the meeting of the Council of Ministers (Social Affairs) in Luxembourg on 28th June 1977. These matters were not discussed on that occasion.

Eligible applications to the European Social Fund for assistance towards schemes benefiting disabled people exceed the funds available and priority has been given to schemes of rehabilitation and retraining. But the possibilities for co-operation over common problems relating to special vehicles for handicapped people are being explored by the Commission.
