HL Deb 11 July 1977 vol 385 c764WA
Lord GRANVILLE of EYE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is their intention to introduce legislation for the control of smoking in single-decker buses in view of the discomfort caused to non-smoking passengers and the possible fire danger.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE, DEPARTMENT of the ENVIRONMENT (Baroness Birk)

No. Regulations already require passengers not to smoke in any part of a vehicle where smoking is prohibited by notice. The decision to prohibit smoking is best left to the discretion of individual operators who, we hope, would give full weight to the comfort of non-smoking passengers.

House adjourned at eleven minutes before nine o'clock.
