asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many (a) one-parent and (b) two-parent families with dependent children have been in receipt of family income supplement since the scheme's inception; and if he will list the average payment for both groups for each of the years listed.

Britain as a whole During 1976, 143,284 applications were dealt with, of which 80,018 resulted in awards.

The number of families living in the East Midlands and East Anglia region, which includes Nottingham, and receiving FIS was 8,670 at the end of March 1977, the latest date for which information is available The total number of families in Great Britain receiving FIS at that time was 82,540.
