§ Mr. Ovendenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what method he uses to calculate the sums to be paid to local authorities under Section 11 of the Local Government Act; and what steps he takes to check that such grants are used for the purposes intended in the Act and in the districts in respect of which they are paid.
§ Mr. JohnGrants are paid at the rate of 75 per cent. of eligible expenditure claimed by local authorities. It is for local authorities themselves to deter mine the appropriate level of such expenditure in accordance with arrangements set out in Home Office Circulars 15/1967 and 169/1970, copies of which are in the Library. Claims for grant are audited in accordance with established Government practice.
