HL Deb 06 July 1977 vol 385 c450WA
Lord JACQUES

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When it will be possible to establish a Crown Court at Warrington.

The LORD CHANCELLOR (Lord Elwyn-Jones)

I am glad to say that after many vicissitudes the Crown Court will sit at Warrington on 5th September and thereafter. This will be a third-tier centre, that is, a court at which circuit judges deal only with criminal cases. There is an existing county court at Warrington, and the staff, suitably reinforced, will serve both courts, so that Warrington will be a combined court centre. The establishment of the new Crown Court centre at Warrington will facilitate and expedite the disposal of criminal business in North Cheshire.

House adjourned at half-past eight o'clock.
