HC Deb 05 July 1977 vol 934 c491W
Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many applications for approval have been made under Section 120 of the Housing Act 1974 in (a) 1975 and (b) 1976 by self-build groups; how many dwellings were involved; how many have actually been built; and what was the total level of financial resources involved in each year.

Mr. Armstrong

There were no applications in 1975 and 54 in 1976, of which 47 were approved. Some applicants failed to provide details of the number of dwellings to be built or converted, as requested in DOE Circular 118/75, but the average number of dwellings per scheme was about 13.

Figures of local authority loans to self-build societies are not available, but the Housing Corporation made loans of £171,000 to self-build societies in 1975, and £731,000 in 1976.
