§ 15. Mr. Joseph Deanasked the Secretary of State for Defence what percentage of school leavers, enrolled in the Armed Forces, are given skilled training commensurate with apprentice training in private industry.
§ Dr. GilbertEach year about 2,500 recruits undertake skilled training which is broadly commensurate with apprentice training in industry. As information is not recorded as to the number of such apprentices that are school leavers I regret that I am unable to say what proportion of school leavers joining the Armed Forces is involved, but it is likely to be significant.
