HC Deb 04 July 1977 vol 934 c416W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what advice he has given to social service departments of local authorities concerning the possible provision during school term time, of meals for pensioners at school canteens outside the hours when these canteens are used to feed the children.

Mr. Deakins

No specific advice has been issued covering this particular form of provision. In guidance issued to local authorities reference has been made to the possible use of the school meals service in meeting the needs of the elderly; some local schemes are in operation. However, the different dietary requirements of children and old people and the need to make regular provision for old people may often limit the scope for such arrangements.
