§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, in view of the statements in leaflet M11 on free 36W spectacles, it is open to health authorities to impose charges for standard NHS lenses in respect of children receiving full-time education on the grounds that the child attends a fee-paying school.
§ Mr. MoyleNot generally, but payment may be required for replacement if lenses are damaged through the carelessness of such children. The distinction goes back to arrangements made for the school health service under the Education Act 1944. My right hon. Friend has this matter under consideration.
